Automated Online Grammar Checking and Proofreading
Many of the publishers say that because of increasing inflation, the money offered to writers is being whittled down. With the opportunities provided by the marvels of the data that the writer has put onto the magnetic disk, this can eliminate a highly paid human typesetter, and the necessity for me to proofread the galley proofs that he or she has produced . . .
When people think of word processors, they think it is for reports and letters only. But it is for programmers, too. Most word processors save their text in ASCII format or have a utility program to convert their text to ASCII and back, for proofreading. To use this tool to edit programs, all that needs to be done is to follow these simple directions.

Is the single most important factor in a dictionary program. All dictionary programs will find your potential errors but if the program is too slow, you are not likely to use it. MICROPROOF's speed is outstanding. It can proofread a several page letter in 20 seconds. There are other proofreading programs available to choose from. Since MICROPROOF became available in December of 1980, a number of companies have announced programs with smalt dictionaries. It took us almost two years to develop MICROPROOF. During that time we were able to compress our full 50,000 word dictionary into a manageable size (fits on one single density 5 inch disk). And we were able to design a proofing program which operates remarkably fast.- The chart below illustrates the comparative advantages of MICROPROOF.
Each of the special sequences that you set up is assigned to a letter in the alphabet. When you want to use that code, press CTRL X k , where k is the letter of the alphabet you assigned the function to. I assigned TM to the T key. When I need a TM, I use CTRL X T . On the video I see a lower case x and an upper case T, both in reverse video. I find it a lot easier to remember that ESisTM on my Scripsit 2.0, than to remember that 1 was TM when I was using Scripsit 1.0. Hopefully this will help with one of Mr. O'Rourke's other problems, which was the difficulty of proofreading material with all of those weird 1.0 control sequences.
Changes made include the addition of several new printer drivers, additional documentation, the inclusion of a patch file to enable SuperSCRIPSIT to run on LDOS Hard Disk (Model III only), and several modifications to SuperSCRIPSIT and the SCRIPSIT Proofread program. Letter dated June 20, 1983
You install the patches with the TRSDOS Patch command. This is simple to do. but make sure your disk isn't write-protected. Start at TRSDOS Ready. Type in the desired patch, proofread it. then press the enter key to finish the command. If a patch has more than one line, be sure to enter all lines before doing anything else. For example, if a patch has three patch lines, you must enter all three lines in the order given as three separate TRSDOS commands. Do not invoke any other DOS commands until you finish all patching.
The Model II SCRIPSIT Spelling & Hyphenation Dictionary is an invaluable aid in proofreading any document and putting it into finished form. The spelling checker finds spelling errors and allows you to correct them, while the hyphenator evens up ragged line endings by dividing words in the proper location.
In an office environment, the EPS-80 word processor gives the user editing power which is not available in the latest electronic typewriters. The built-in high speed cassette storage achieves inexpensive and reliable transfer of text from one EPS-80 to another. Therefore, where multiple EPS-80s are used, not every one has to have its own printer. For instance, a single letter quality printer on one EPS-80 can prepare final copies of letters for four to ten non-printer stations. The overall system is efficient, costs less per station than an equal number of electronic typewriters, and provides much higher throughput. There is no need for the usual cycle of dictation, correction and proofreading as the basic composing function can be in the hands of the originator.
If there is a weak point, it is in the documentation. Not in substance, but in professionalism. The documentation contains sentences like The command AO causes the aircraft to descend to 0 altitude, but is also causes the aircraft to ignore all further instructions. What is needed here is a little bit of proofreading. That shouldn't be hard for the distributors to do, since they publish a national magazine. Errors in the advertising for ATC a i so seem to stem from poor proofreading, rather than an attempt to mislead. The full-page ad calls the clock inimitable , which it is not. I suspect that they meant inimical , or perhaps indomitable . That same ad gives the price as 9.95, when the other ads and the catalog list it at 7.95 except for the Apple II version. And another ad incorrectly says that you must handle 27 planes, rather than 26.
